  4. Members should exhibit good sportsmanship at all UKC events and will treat other people with courtesy and respect at all times.

  5. Members should refrain from knowingly making defamatory, slanderous, unfair, or untrue statements about the dogs or practices of others and about other persons.

  6. Members should maintain the best possible standards of nutrition, health, cleanliness and veterinary care. Neglect or abuse of any dog in the care of a member will not be tolerated.

  7. Members should work collectively to improve and promote the breed and should not intentionally allow a Labrador to be bred to any other breed of dog. All breeding shall be done selectively towards this goal and not purely for financial gain. Breeders should not intentionally allow a Labrador to be bred to any other breed of dog.

  8. Members not breed dogs with known genetic defects if the defects are likely to cause impairment of the health of the offspring.

  9. Members should select only healthy breeding stock that are representative of the breed standard.

  10. Members should be thoroughly familiar with the UKC Standard of their breed and should not intentionally breed for disqualifying faults as stated in the Standard.

  11. All breeding stock should have eyes examined annually and certified free of inheritable disease by a board certified veterinary ophthalmologist (ACVO).

  12. All breeding stock should be certified free of hip and elbow dysplasia by the Orthapedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) or other recognized registry at the age of 24 months.

  13. Members are advised to keep accurate breeding records, registrations and pedigrees.

  14. Breeders should not breed, sell or consign puppies or adults to pet shops, commercial dealers, brokers, mail order houses or wholesale outlets.

  15. Upon the sale of a dog/puppy, members should provide the buyer with a properly executed United Kennel Club Registration Certificate, diet record, an inoculation and parasite control record and health guarantee.

  16. It is strongly recommended that members selling "pet quality" dogs utilize a spay/neuter and non-breeding contract or withhold papers until proof of spay/neuter is furnished.

  17. Breeders shall refrain from releasing any puppy until it is at least seven (7) weeks old, or eight (8) weeks old if the puppy is to be shipped.
