- Members should abide by the Constitution
and Bylaws of Great Lakes Labrador Lovers, Inc. and the rules
and regulations of the United Kennel Club.
- Members should be in good standing with the United
Kennel Club.
- Members should always conduct
themselves in a manner in which will reflect credit upon
themselves, Labrador Retrievers, and other individuals in the
sport of purebred dogs, regardless of their location or
circumstances.
- Members should
exhibit good sportsmanship at all UKC events and will treat
other people with courtesy and respect at all times.
- Members
should refrain from knowingly making defamatory, slanderous,
unfair, or untrue statements about the dogs or practices of
others and about other persons.
- Members should maintain the best
possible standards of nutrition, health, cleanliness and
veterinary care. Neglect or abuse of any dog in the care of a
member will not be tolerated.

Members should work
collectively to improve and promote the breed and should not
intentionally allow a Labrador to be bred to any other breed
of dog. All breeding shall be done selectively towards this
goal and not purely for financial gain. Breeders should not
intentionally allow a Labrador to be bred to any other breed
of dog.
- Members not breed dogs with known
genetic defects if the defects are likely to cause impairment
of the health of the offspring.
- Members should select only healthy breeding stock that
are representative of the breed standard.
- Members should be thoroughly familiar
with the UKC Standard of their breed and should not
intentionally breed for disqualifying faults as stated in the
Standard.
- All breeding stock should have eyes
examined annually and certified free of inheritable disease by
a board certified veterinary ophthalmologist (ACVO).
- All breeding stock should be certified
free of hip and elbow dysplasia by the Orthapedic Foundation
for Animals (OFA) or other recognized registry at the age of
24 months.
- Members are advised to keep accurate
breeding records, registrations and pedigrees.
- Breeders should not breed, sell or
consign puppies or adults to pet shops, commercial dealers,
brokers, mail order houses or wholesale outlets.
- Upon the sale of a dog/puppy, members
should
provide the buyer with a properly executed United Kennel Club
Registration Certificate, diet record, an inoculation and
parasite control record and health guarantee.
- It is strongly recommended that members
selling "pet quality" dogs utilize a spay/neuter and
non-breeding contract or withhold papers until proof of
spay/neuter is furnished.
- Breeders shall refrain from releasing
any puppy until it is at least seven (7) weeks old, or eight
(8) weeks old if the puppy is to be shipped.
